Our Purpose

Dwelly’s long-term goal is to make sustainable, small-scale housing accessible to everyday homeowners while reducing the environmental impact of residential construction across New England.Massachusetts and Rhode Island face two connected challenges: a severe housing shortage and increasing climate impacts from inefficient buildings. Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) offer a practical solution. By allowing small homes within existing neighborhoods, ADUs expand housing supply without large-scale development while reducing per-person energy use, land consumption, and infrastructure expansion.Despite growing interest in ADUs, most homeowners do not know where to begin. The permitting process is complex, financing pathways are unclear, and information about sustainable building strategies is rarely accessible to the public in a clear, practical format.Dwelly was created to bridge this gap. Our work helps homeowners responsibly add small-scale housing through ADUs that prioritize energy efficiency, climate resilience, and long-term affordability.Through educational resources, community outreach, and practical planning tools, Dwelly helps residents turn underutilized properties into climate-friendly housing that supports multigenerational living, rental stability, and neighborhood resilience.Ultimately, we envision communities across New England incrementally increasing housing supply while transitioning toward lower-carbon, community-centered development patterns.
