Our purpose is to help expand options and access to food in Somerville, one of the most diverse ethnic and economic situation cities in the Commonwealth of Massachuesetts. While a number of food secuirty (or insecurity) programs exist, often it takes a very public event like a weekly farmers market to truly be open and accessible without creating stigma for individuals and families in need to have access. We are very focused on providing this access and team up the a group of organizations and agencies in the City of Somerville to cross promote all food secuirty programs, but here we will drive access ourselves in an area we can control and build out ourselves.This is a new launch farmers market and as such our webpage isn't ready, nor are the social media channels. We have a complete program for these in late May with a 30-day count down to opening day June 12th (the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources Commissioner is coming to do the ribbon cutting with the Mayor of Somerville). As such, there are no photos to add in to this application and hopefully that doesn't diminsh our chance for grant support.
