Our Purpose

At it's inception in 2017, Skowhegan Area Youth Group (SAYG) was originally created to be a youth group that was open and affirming of LGBTQ.  While the group has grown greatly to meet other community needs in the years since, this will always be one of the core tenets.      All other areas of focus are based on the needs of our local and regional communities (the youth also get to weight in).  The needs particular to our areas are food sustanence, free afterschool activities, teaching skills to become a successful adult, and getting youth active while exploring the outdoors.       Our mission statement best reflects our intent in everything we do: SAYG focuses on creating a safe community for all youth to unplug and experience nature, make life-long friends, establish self-worth and mutual respect, and build healthy relationships and positive character through community service.
