Our Purpose

Rest-Stop-Ranch (RSR) was born in 2010 from a simple, urgent realization: nature is a universal human need, yet our neighbors navigating dementia, Parkinson’s, and mobility disabilities are often systematically excluded from it. Our "big picture" goal is to provide a fully ADA-accessible, 4-acre therapeutic sanctuary that bridges the gap between clinical care and the healing power of the natural environment. We became a formal 501(c)(3) in 2019 to ensure this sanctuary remains a permanent, community-owned asset. Our work is rooted in the principle of "Nature Equity." While many public parks exist, they rarely offer the specific "universal access" infrastructure—paver pathways, quiet sensory zones, and specialized seating—required for those on a long-term care journey to engage with nature safely and independently. We do this work because we believe a diagnosis should not mean the end of one's relationship with the outdoors. Our goal is to combat the dual crises of caregiver burnout and senior isolation through free social-respite programs, such as our Memory Café in the Garden. We are currently working to shift "Social Prescribing" from a concept into a local reality by partnering with regional health centers. By maintaining this resilient, inclusive landscape, we ensure that every person, regardless of their physical or cognitive state, can find a place of peace, dignity, and connection in the natural world.
