Our Purpose

The Greater Minnehonk Lake Association (GMLA) is a small, rural, non-profit lake association located in Mount Vernon, Maine. Our purpose is to preserve and care for the natural resources, attractiveness, and beauty of Minnehonk Lake, Hopkins Pond, and Hopkins Stream, as well as its tributaries and shorelines. This is an important portion of the 30 Mile River Watershed. To achieve this purpose, the members of GMLA commit themselves to do everything within their means to: maintain the purity of the lake waters, the integrity of its shores, and the quality of its soils; control erosion to the extent practical; patrol for aquatic invasive plants and conduct courtesy boat inspections.GMLA encourages, supports, and collaborates with other groups and organizations that promote lake and watershed management plans, programs, and projects, thus helping to maintain the quality and purity of the lake water as well as the ecological integrity of the entire lake and watershed. GMLA works closely with the town of Mount Vernon, Maine, the Mount Vernon Community Partnership Corporation (CPC), the 30 Mile River Watershed Association, Lake Stewards of Maine, Maine Lakes, and the LakeSmart Program. GMLA encourages a variety of safe and pleasurable uses of the lake to the community at large. To this end, members are familiar with and adhere to Maine’s boating, fishing, and other rules, regulations, and statutes.
