Nuevas Voces
Our Purpose
Working since 2019 under the WRWC umbrella as "Nuevas Voces," we are a diverse group of Latino community watershed residents, staff, program graduates, stakeholders and allies autonomously representing the 02909 and 02908 zip codes of Providence, RI. Our communities cope with increasing severe storms and flooding, low-income and impoverished households, impaired air and water and other interconnected racial, environmental and social justice burdens. We:• Empower and catalyze action for our neighborhoods, river, and futures;• Uplift economic/social mobility through leadership and technical training and workforce npipelines;• Invest in knowledge and skills acquisition and technical and workforce training towards greater neighborhood participation and power in climate and environmental planning, decisionmaking and problem solving; and• Through our training programs, activities and results, we expand robust engagement of residents from our watershed’s disadvantaged communities in climate change related work that is meaningful to them and that creates lasting economic, climate and environmental impact. In so doing, as a growing and cohesive community of Latino learners, practitioners and leaders comprised of residents, students, elected officials and business owners who operate through the Olneyville Resilience Hub, we transform ourselves from “Nuevas Voces” (New Voices) into “Voces Fuertes” (Strong Voices) for change.
