AKNEW
Our Purpose
AKNEW began this work after recognizing the connection between food access, environmental conditions, and the health and stability of people in our community who are returning from incarceration, navigating recovery, or experiencing housing instability. Many individuals in these situations face barriers to accessing healthy food, safe spaces, and supportive community networks, which can negatively affect both physical and mental well-being.Building on the work supported through our previous Seed Grant, AKNEW brings community members together to address food access and environmental health challenges through shared learning, community activities, and peer support. Our goal is to strengthen community-led solutions that improve access to healthy food, create healthier environments, and support the overall well-being of individuals who have historically been excluded from these resources.By centering the voices and lived experiences of those most affected, we aim to build stronger community networks and develop practical, grassroots approaches to improving food access, health, and stability in our community.
