Our Purpose

The Indigenous Landscape Initiative (In Land) works to involve communities in bringing Indigenous land stewardship practices back to land in this region, for ecological health, food for people, learning, building relationships among people and with the land. We emphasize diverse Native and non-Native involvement, food access, education, climate resilience, long-term commitment to the land. We recognize that all who live on the land today have a responsibility to care for it, and In Land’s purpose is to bring communities together to care for the land and each other and to benefit from the land’s abundance in mutual relationship.  Our basic model is to partner with landholding groups to engage community and steward land that they hold. Our goal is to work on land across the Northeast of a variety of site types (urban, rural, etc.), ecologies, and ownership arrangements to involve communities in caring for the land and to help the land care for us now and in the future.
