Our purpose is to educate and build skills within the broader Muslim Communities of Connecticut and Massachusetts about a wide range of environmental issues which include, conservation, preservation, and lifestyle changes that will have a positive impact on the environment. We do this by offering training and programming for families enrolled formally in Girl Scouts of Connecticut and Scouting America programs who identify with the Islamic Faith. This unique population requires very culturally sensitive programming and needs in order to carry out our vision and mission. We provide important educational and hands on opportunities to connect with nature, learn about zero waste, limit waste, leave no trace and other environmental values that are in alignment with traditional faith based teachings and traditions. This particular project is new this ear, the Girl Scout Trailblazer Program is a specialized group that has a focus and emphasis on outdoor survival skills, recreation, high adventure activities and outdoor wilderness skills. We want to provide more camping opportunities for the youth and training for the Adult Volunteer leaders to be able to lead longer and more challenging hikes and camp/backpacking programs. We plan to create a "Gear Library" with books and resources that can be borrowed for our outdoor excursions making outdoor access more accessible. We already have leased a space for the next 9 months to establish the library.
