Our Purpose

Founded in 2020 during the pandemic, La Bodeguita De La Gente’s mission is to advocate for the fundamental rights and inclusion of all families.  We provide culturally competent bilingual services, support and education to families in need, predominantly the immigrant community in the city of Hartford, CT, so that they are better positioned for a brighter future. What started as help for single immigrant mothers is now help for the entire Connecticut community as we provide services to families from towns including, New Haven, Meriden, Waterbury, East Hartford, West Hartford, Manchester, and Bridgeport, etc.  We have helped over 450 families on a weekly basis through food pantry services and continue to provide advocacy and case management to immigrants and others in need, including survivors of domestic violence.  La Bodeguita offers much needed culturally competent services to the fast-growing immigrant and low income population in Connecticut.  We were born out of desperation during the pandemic when so many lost their source of income; however, this brought to light many of the food and housing insecurity issues in this community and the need to address this long-term.  Four years later, families are still struggling to bounce back after all the loss during the pandemic and now during record inflation impacting ability to afford food, clothing and personal items as basic as milk and diapers.
