Friendly Fruits Community Gardens
Our Purpose
The big picture goal of Friendly Fruits is to create a nurturing and inclusive environment through our community garden, providing fresh, locally grown produce while fostering community resilience and support for LGBTQ individuals. Our overarching reason for becoming active stems from a deep-seated commitment to addressing both food insecurity and social isolation within the LGBTQ community. By providing access to fresh produce and creating safe, affirming spaces for LGBTQ folx, we aim to bridge the gap between sustainable agriculture and community well-being. Our mission is to leverage the power of gardening not only to nourish bodies but also to cultivate strong, supportive networks that can mitigate the unique challenges faced by LGBTQ individuals, such as mental health issues and lack of familial support. We believe that by fostering these connections, we can enhance resilience, reduce psychological distress, and contribute to the overall health and happiness of our community. Friendly Fruits was formed out of a desire to make a tangible difference in the lives of LGBTQ individuals, promoting both physical and mental health through the power of community and sustainable gardening. This work is driven by our passion for equality, inclusivity, and the belief that everyone deserves access to fresh, healthy food and a supportive community.
