Our Purpose

Brazen Bandits was formed as a trans artist collective that aims to counter the inaccessibilty of capitalistic community gathering spaces and elitism in the art world by creating spaces for community collaboration and connection around creativity and social change. We believe art is a powerful tool to build connection, belonging, and to shift culture. Through interdisciplinary art and accessible community art projects, we are carving out authenticity; pursuing transformation despite cultural norms, mounting intolerance, and extremism. As Maine becomes less accessible to young people, long time residents, and marginalized people, spaces that are accessible and non-transactional are needed to build community resilience and care. We create spaces that foster interpersonal and community support in a way that increases our capacities to show up and care for each other. Having accessible space to make art, witness art, and gather together without financial barriers will strengthen our community ties to each other and bypass elitist systems of gathering together under capitalism.
