Our Purpose

Our purpose is to improve Algonquin Regional High School’s and the greater Northborough-Southborough community's connection to nature. We find ways to implement sustainable solutions at our high school and in Northborough-Southborough schools.    There are a few parts to this, including effective action such as establishing responsible school recycling practices, composting, and adding plants inside and outside of school. Currently, our school district has single-stream recycling and issues with contamination. Many of the student body and staff are uneducated about our high school’s practices, exacerbating the prominence of misplaced waste.    For creating a composting plan, we are working with Black Earth Compost to collect mainly food scraps for processing at their facilities. We may also implement small on-site composting at our school, which we can use to educate students about composting and for planting projects. We would also like to add more plants into the school to improve mental health and academic performance.
