Our Purpose

The world is experiencing a crisis in biodiversity loss, exacerbated by climate change. Policy and planning circles have only just begun tackling these issues, but local and municipal organizations are increasingly seen as key to implementable solutions. Furthermore, decision-making bodies that do not reflect the community they represent can exacerbate current and historical injustices in underrepresented populations. In light of these challenges, the Town of Arlington is looking to reassess its ecological land management plans to determine how biodiversity and associated resilience can be enhanced within the context of climate change at the municipal scale.Navigating a complex topic like biodiversity requires a holistic approach, but in the absence of a holistic suite of principles to guide the development and implementation of local-scale planning goals and recommendations, siloed planning processes risk establishing counterproductive measures that could make progress towards desirable futures inefficient and ineffective. We aim to uncover the concerns and priorities of underrepresented populations in Arlington by providing equitable community engagement in strategic planning sessions. Our purpose is to seed a cohesive suite of pathways that the Town of Arlington can deploy to achieve more desirable biodiversity and climate futures for nature and humans. Together, these efforts aim to ensure that the futures that we are working towards are equitable for all.
