Our Purpose

Our purpose is to remove invasive species along the Cochituate rail trail and replace them with native plants and wildflowers that attract endangered bird and bee populations and encourage habitat of those animals.  We are looking to be able to purchase mature perennials to plant as well as seeds to improve and cultivate these areas. The railtrail helps alleviate greenspace inequity along all race and income brackets. Minorities, citizens of lower socioeconomic levels, and less educated populations have limited access to green space (both in terms of quantity and quality) and their associated benefits. Old rail lines (and now Rail trails) run right through areas of historically underserved populations.  These are precisely the people we're looking to better serve.  The Cochituate Rail Trail receives 200,000 visitors a year.  Having a bad day? Come take in the views, breezes, and smiles of other visitors. "Leave It On The Rail Trail".
