Our Purpose

The NH Queer Farmer Network is growing and sustaining a community of queer-identified farmers. The network aims to cultivate a space wherein queer farmers can share resources, connect as a community, and provide a farming-centered, queer-inclusive space in the state. The network was originally started by queer farmers throughout the state meeting both online and on farms to form community, assess needs, and share opportunities. The initial funding came through UNH Cooperative Extension as part of federal Farm and Ranch Stress Assistance funding to support farmer mental health. We felt it important to continue the Network beyond that initial grant which ended this August, and thus have sought fiscal sponsorship and further funding. We remain rooted in the belief that building supportive community amongst queer farmers in the state is a powerful protective factor to bolster mental wellbeing and encourage a thriving agriculture. We also work to amplify the existence and perspectives of queer farmers, to each other and the wider community, through our Instagram and mailing list. We work with allies to foster an agriculture in New Hampshire that celebrates a diversity of experiences and perspectives and encourages the wellbeing of all.Our Advisory Board and Coordinator, all queer, have benefited personally from the assistance of social connections fostered by the Network, and are all called in a bigger way to advocate for queer farmers together and in our respective jobs.
