Manchester Conservation Comm
Our Purpose
The Manchester Conservation Commission has been active for over 20 years. We have been involved trail building, supporting open space, roadside cleanup, and supporting pesticide and plastic use controls, dark sky rules, and comprehensive planning. This is our first year building storm windows with the support of WindowDressers. We had heard about this project from our neighboring town, Winthrop, and have met with the leaders of that group to look into how the project operates. Our plan is to piggy back with Winthrop; after they complete their build (in which leaders will participate to gain skills) we will then take over equipment and do our own build for and with Manchester residents. We hope to build windows for 20-25 households, or just over 200 windows. We have secured the support of the Town of Manchester, which will provide financial support if needed as well as serve as fiscal agent. We've also spoken to the Manchester Lions, who have said they would like to volunteer to measure and build, as well as recruit households that could use windows. We will be prioritizing lower income households, with the goal of saving energy, increasing comfort, and supporting their ability to stay in their homes. We will ask people to pay for the windows, as is WindowDressers' policy, but we are seeking funds to assist those who cannot pay. We also ask beneficiaries to work on this community building event, if possible.
