Creature Conserve is a Rhode Island-based nonprofit 501(c)(3) outreach organization dedicated to bringing artists, writers, and scientists together to foster informed, sustained support for animal conservation. We believe the arts informed by science have the power to direct our attention to the ongoing loss of species and what we can do about it. Our plan is to create a safe, supportive, and vibrant space for art/sci conservation work that is accessible to all. Our programs include Art Direction, Exhibits & Events, Mentorship, Network Growth, Scholarships, Social Media, and Workshops.Our motivation is the ongoing loss of biodiversity and the need for more public engagement in conservation. Our inspiration is the evidence that conservation works when it is collaborative, community-based, cross-disciplinary, and inclusive.As we become increasingly urban, we become increasingly disconnected from the natural world. We lose touch with all the love and compassion we develop for animals as children as if it is no longer needed. This disconnection plays a role in our slow and inadequate response to the harms humans have wrought on nature, including the sixth mass extinction, climate change, and global food insecurity. At Creature Conserve, we give participants the opportunity to reconnect with the wild and wonderful world of animals and figure out how we can work together across disciplines to make substantive changes that improve conservation outcomes.
