Friends of L.C. Bates Museum
Our Purpose
The all-volunteer Friends of L.C.Bates Museum mission is solely to raise funds to support the programs, building preservation and operations of the L.C.Bates Museum. The Museum is dedicated to inspiring wonder, discovery and responsibility for our natural and cultural worlds through exhibitions and programs. The Museum, a program of Good Will-Hinckley, is an ideal place for learning and activating children’s interest in the arts, history and our natural world. The museum’s services are an important resource for our economically challenged Central Maine families and under resourced schools. The museum programs and activities focus on teaching environmental science and knowledge about our regional habitats to promote environmental stewardship. The new hands- on Museum Resource Lending Library project will loan free educational activities to teachers, homeschoolers and families. The libary will support understanding and observing our regional environment. We want to organize and assemble library discovery boxs and make and distribute library content lists for teachers and families. During the virus and beyond there is a community need for student and children's interactive learning experiences that support understanding of our environment and its needs. The library materials will provide student centered learning activities. We want to do this work to build community knowledge that supports making descissions about the future needs of our environment.
