Our purpose is to divorce Pride celebrations in Burlington from capitalism and police violence. Last year we created a completely free-of-charge march, festival, art gallery, burlesque show, local band/spoken word showcase, and community meal - all over the course of one day - for over 500 people, without permits or police involvement. As part of Burlington's vibrant mutual aid network, we want to show that joy, celebration, and togetherness are as much a necessity as the important daily work done by Food Not Bombs, CopWatch, and People's Kitchen. A grant would allow us to make this year's People's Pride even more accessible than last year's. We want our community to know that their survival, joy, and pleasure matter; that LGBTQ+ pride can't be bought by pinkwashed banks; that community - not capital and not the state - is what keeps us safe, whole, and together.
