Our Purpose

The Life Health and Wellness Center is a place where love and community connect. We promote programs for youth and adults through strategic partnerships in the community around education, health, and well being for some of our most underserved neighbors. Our staple work includes programs like a community garden to help allieviate food insecurity, an annual Back-to-School Rally to give out school supplies, a food pantry for anyone (no application required).  With community parterns we provided COVID test kits to our vulnerable residents, STEM programs for elementary school age children, a telehealth support group for young girls coping with the stresses of the pandemic, and a Pray and Paint event for breast cancer awareness. In 2021 we opened our Abundance of Joy Learning Center. Our neighborhood of Ansonia, CT experiences a higher childhood poverty rate (28%) than the national average, and focus groups showed that parents desperately needed child care close to home. For children up to age 12, we are pleased to provide this caring and educationally focused service for some of our most vulnerable families. This is part of a larger effort to assist parents struggling to remove cost barriers to public transportation that can prevent families from gaining steady employment and economic stability. LHWC may be small, but we are nimble so as to meet the needs of our neighbors quickly and easily. Our thanks to all our community partners for their ever-ready help.
