Our purpose is to grow and distribute healthy produce to food insecure individuals in our area. We live in an area with a better than 17% food insecure population. Up to now, our project has focused on senior citizens who can use fresh vegetables from May to October. We are  planning to partner with the soon-to-be operating Heart of Maine Resource Center in Dexter to expand our outreach to include others who could benefit from receiving healthy food. We have a small 10X24 foot greenhouse which has increased our ability to start to send out produce earlier. We are organically gardening on about an acre of land and last year we sent out about 2500 pounds of produce to area senior citizens. We believe in this work because we understand the cycle of healthy soil bringing forth healthy crops to sustain healthy lives. We want to teach people the benefits of this lifestyle. At this point we need some help to move this work forward. We need a garden shed for storage and washing and packing produce. We need to set up irrigation. We need to purchase reusable distribution containers. And we dream of planting fruit trees and getting some garden carts!
