LUNA Community Cooperative
Our Purpose
LUNA Community Care is a disabled workers cooperative that provides peer support, education, training, advocacy and community events centered around Neurodiversity and Disability Justice. Many Neurodivergent, Mad, chronically ill and disabled individuals struggle to work in our existing systems and workplaces, due to ableism and lack of access. We have built a workers cooperative that addresses these issues head on, by creating a flexible, accessible and peer-led workspace, where individuals with lived experience can make a livable wage ($30 an hour stipend) for the work that they are contributing back to the community, while also creating a system of community care & mutual aid for both worker members and participants. Past events include a gender affirming makeup workshop, self love dance party, Neurodivergent peer group (also BIPOC & LGBTQ+, NB/trans specific groups), Neurodivergent provider group and we have a full list of upcoming groups and events beginning on September 26th. We also provide access to resources, and offer support around system navigation (housing, food, medical, etc). In addition to this, we also provide training and consultation related to disability justice and Neurodivergence to other organizations. Our vision as an organization is to improve the quality of life for Neurodivergent adults, and to promote a shift in the culture, attitudes and acceptance of Neurodivergent and Disabled individuals in the community.
