Bread for Boston is a grassroots, youth-led non-profit fighting to eradicate food-insecurity, food waste, and alleviate economic inequality. We aim to deliver hope & opportunity to hungry working-class families across Boston by supporting struggling women & minority-owned local restaurants hit hard by COVID-19.Since the depths of COVID-19 throughout 2020, over 10,000 employees have lost their jobs, and over 60% of establishments will never be able to reopen. Even worse, over 1 million Massachusettsans are going hungry; and 1 in 5 children are going to bed hungry every night. Moreover, food-security has become a luxury so scarce, only those with the power the pay, can afford basic human needs — a disgrace on the American Dream, disproportionately affecting minority families. With 103 million tons of food waste contributed by humans (and a large portion by large chain restaurants) every year, carbon emissions by that waste certainly don't help. And while Coronavirus cases are on a downward trend, vaccinations are up, and the world is on the road to recovery, millions of Americans still aren't out of the woods yet — and may not be for sometime.As part of the next generation, we have an unparalleled perspective from their knowledge of the past carried forth unto the issues of the future.
