Our Purpose

Grasshopper Academy strives to increase ecological literacy for all. While the organization will eventually contribute program offerings to the "general public" (all ages), it is primarily focused on K-12 public school students at this time. Our hope is to provide systems and critical thinking tools to young people to aid in their development into thought leaders in the field of sustainable human systems. In order to assist in schools' adoption of Grasshopper Academy programming, we incorporate Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and STEAM concepts to reinforce existing standards set forth by state and local educational institutions. We also believe that mindfulness and Social Emotional Learning (SEL) tools are important in the development of resilient adults, so we layers in these types of activities into all of our programming as well. Because the public school system generally "casts a wide net" of youth engagement (with the exceptions of home school and private school programs), we partner with individual schools and youth-serving programs to leverage resources to ensure any interested youth is able to participate. These take into consideration meal programs, school schedules, and transportation needs. We are committed to breaking down any barriers to participation and to constantly improving in this area.
