Herbs for the Movement
Our Purpose
We gather as Black herbalists, farmers, landworkers, healers and artists committed to radical change. We lead workshops, make herbal medicine, story share, and learn methods of communal care. Our goal is to get to a place where we can send medicine to communities impacted by violence free herbs and herbal remedies, as well as educate communities on environmental justice and herbalism and its role in promoting health. Especially in the midst of a pandemic, where education around communal wellness is so important we hope to disrupt the cycles of medical, emotional, physical, and spiritual neglect many oppressed communities face. We center healing justice a termed coined by Cara Page who describes it “as a framework that identifies how we can holistically respond to and intervene on generational trauma and violence and bring collective practices that can impact and transform the consequences of oppression on our bodies, hearts and minds.” We focus on the work of transforming our relationships with our self and communities by using transformative & healing justice practices rooted in the legacies of Critical Resistance, Mariame Kaba, Ella Baker, Audre Lorde, Angela Davis, bell hooks, Alexis Pauline Gumbs and others.
