Our Purpose

Malden Neighbors Helping Neighbors (MNHN) is a group of volunteers dedicated to helping Malden residents deal with the impacts of and responses to the COVID 19 pandemic. The core group of 12 volunteer organizers from diverse backgrounds was formed in March to connect volunteers with those in need of services. MNHN has a current membership of over 1000. The group has no political or religious affiliations. The services that the group currently provides are:
  • Deliver medications, essential supplies and groceries to those who are vulnerable
  • Provide meals for those in need or unwell
  • Provide easy access to cleaning supplies, PPE, and other essentials by managing a hub in a local venue.
  • Ensure the mobility of those in need by providing transit passes and relevant financial support
  • Provide multilingual resources and documents in 9 languages to reach the diverse Malden community.
  • Provide referrals to rental/housing advocacy services
  • Assist the city in distributing laptops to children for remote learning
  • Coordinate the making of reusable masks and distributing them
  • When funding is in place, support frontline workers with childcare expenses.
The group has established close partnerships with the city, food pantries and advocacy agencies, enabling it to mobilize resources and address issues in an expeditious manner. The group intends to stay in place after the pandemic tides over in anticipation of a prolonged economic recovery.
