Albany Neighbors Task Force
Our Purpose
Our purpose is to help respond to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on Albany town residents who are in need of food and other household supplies due to lack of funds, lack of transportation, isolation, or lack of knowledge about where help is available. Albany is a rural town of approximately 900 where average incomes are near the poverty level. Our group is made up of volunteers who came together in the last few days and had its first meeting by ZOOM yesterday, March 30. Our initail plans are: 1. To develop a mailing to all town residents, many of whom may not have internet access (seniors, for example), to inform them of where and how they can get help, 2. Establish a COVID-19 telephone hotline, 3. Establish a list of volunteers who can help and identify specific capabilities of the volunteers, 4. Establish a way to identify those who may need help but are reluctant to ask for it. 5. Identify stores that may be wiling to provide food at low or no cost for those in need, 6. Consult with the Town of Craftsbury COVID-19 group about what is working in Craftsbury and how Albany might coordinate with Craftsbury, 7. Establish a COVID-19 website or page. Initial reports are that the Town of Albany cannot provide any funds for these efforts.
