OHI
Our Purpose
Our purpose is to...support people with intellectual disabilities, Autism, autism-spectrum disorders, mental illness and co-occurring substance abuse disorders in six Maine counties. OHI provides 24-hour residential services and various community-based supports for about 600 people with these disabilities. OHI inspires people to recognize possibilities and lead meaningful lives. The agency also owns and operates the Brewer Area Food Pantry serving the food insecurity needs of residents in Brewer and Eddington, and 17 apartments providing permanent housing for chronically homeless families, couples and individuals who also have mental illness. In 2019, OHI centralized corporate, administrative and training functions under one roof at a new location in Bangor and opened the Eagle’s Nest Clubhouse, an employment service for adults with persistent mental illness, in Ellsworth.
