Our Purpose

The Northfield Farmers Market was formed 10 years ago with the purpose of being a vital part of the food system, economic base, and community life in Central Vermont. With only one grocery and a Dollar General store, Northfield relies on the Northfield Farmers Market for year-long access to affordable, locally grown meats and produce as well as locally made foods, arts and crafts.  We ensure that access in part by participating in the Vermont SNAP, Crop Cash, and Farm to Table federal pass-through programs to help put healthy, nutritious foods on the tables of our food-insecure neighbors.  We support local farmers and small businesses by providing an affordable sales channel for their Vermont-made products.  The market is a vibrant hub of community connection that operates every Tuesday afternoon throughout the summer season from mid-May through mid-October on the Town Common, and the first Sundays in the winter months at Norwich University.
