Our Purpose

Our purpose is to feed hungry neighbors while cultivating community among our diverse city. We focus on nutrient-packed food donations from local farms, Whole Foods, and the Wayside Food Program in Portland, to feed and educate about nutrition with neighbors unfamiliar with healthy food options in our community. We serve hundreds of families, most whom are disabled and elderly and many are from war-torn countries. We've become a large family of about 250! We expanded four years ago to fill the need born out of a local pantry closing. We strive to bring love, friendship, and food security to neighbors of all ages, races, religions, genders, sexual orientations, and abilities. We serve our community by helping families have nutritious food and be friends they can count on to share the struggles and joys of life with, assuring them they're not alone. We were the first pantry in the city to immediately transition to a 'no contact' food pantry (3/11/20) when COVID-19 reached Maine. We serve many folks struggling with chronic illness and patrons who are undergoing chemo, who did not want to risk illness entering stores and potentially getting ill. We are grateful to have an opportunity to serve our community on a weekly basis and will always strive to adapt in critical times of need to maintain our outreach to our neighbors.
