DegrowBTV exists to bring diverse groups together to organize for the social transformation we need to create a just and vibrant futures. We educate each other about the importance of replacing today’s dominant economic institutions with alternatives that do not rely on economic growth. Economic growth expands extraction and environmental damage but does not necessarily enhance well-being or address the unmet needs of oppressed populations. We strive to open spaces of encounter for imagining and constructing patchworks of varied, overlapping economic arrangements that can allow collectives to pursue shared flourishing and security for all. We also aim to support fierce, non-violent opposition to the exploitation and domination that are inherent to a growth-based capitalist economy. With DegrowBTV, we gather the Burlington community to adapt these ideas to address our local social and ecological issues.Degrowth Fest is key to this mission. It makes time and space for community-building, education, imagination, co-creation, celebration and resistance.
