Awasqa: The Green Network Project
Our Purpose
At Awasqa (“weave” or “knitting” in Kichwa)/the Green Network Project we seek to create an international communications network and build a sustainable world by breaking linguistic barriers between indigenous communities in the Northern and Southern hemispheres, to share stories of resilience, knowledge and good practices, and foster a new vision of hope and a deep intergenerational change. We recognize that our communities have inherited social and environmental ailments, product of colonialism and extractivist and unsustainable practices that see Mother Earth / Pachamama as an unlimited resource. These same communities are among the most vulnerable to climate change, but yet hold much of the wisdom we need to protect our planet. We believe that the survival of sustainable communities and all life on earth depend on a paradigm shift that transforms us collectively from victims into visionaries, from defenders to architects of change. We are community journalists—in the broader sense—with the desire to work collaboratively with communities and people to share their stories and experiences of change. We are committed to working in the community with a growing network of partners, to disseminate and promote the already existing work of indigneous media, and support and help train young, indigenous media makers.
