The purpose of this group is to protect the environment and health of Hartland, ME. Community members are affected by a local sludge landfill, which is polluting our community, threatening our public health, and diminishing our quality of life. The landfill is causing noxious odors, dust plumes, damage to our ecosystem, diminishing our property values, and has a history of groundwater contamination. The odor from the landfill was so bad in the summer that on certain days we couldn’t even go outside and have a barbeque or sit by an open fire. We had enough, so we decided to form a group to address the situation, and protect our community. Our goal is to convince the select board to shut it down sooner rather than later.  We want to do this because we believe we have a right to clean air, water, and environment.
