Luminarium Dance
Our Purpose
Our purpose for this project is to bring a wider audience to the water crisis in Merrimack, NH (director Kim Holman's hometown), and to environmental causes across New England. By utilizing the arts, we can reach more eyes and ears as a wider range of people are more apt to engage in a performance rather than, say, a community meeting. With the creation of vivid dance and theatre pieces, with participatory elements for viewers, we hope to engage and activate more of our community members. On June 15, 2019, we wish to bring more activism to the international Global Water Dances event. By creating original performance, and performing outdoors near a site of contamination, we wish to entertain, engage, and energize. The event will have publicity, both as it features a major Boston professional dance company coming to Merrimack, and as it's a globally recognized and publicized event. Beyond this project, Luminarium Dance Company, founded by Merli V. Guerra and Kimberleigh A. Holman in Boston in 2010, is an award-winning contemporary dance company now in its eighth season that is regularly hailed for its unique combination of dance and light. Luminarium’s mission is two-fold, stemming from the word “luminary” (n. 1. a body that gives off light 2. sheds light on some subject or enlightens mankind).
