Our Purpose

Our purpose is to engage students in active learning about nutrition, healthy food choices and a local farm economy.  We are building life-long skills that impact personal and community well-being now and in the future. Lamoille North School District has begun the work of developing a strong Farm to School program district-wide. While supporting and celebrating the variety of efforts happening in individual schools, this newly merged district is also building and strengthening resources that we share in common. Pivitol amongst them is our Green Mountain Tecnical and Career Center's Sustainable Agriculture Program, directed by Sam Rowley. The school farm is a classroom to area high school students, a source of fresh produce for our school cafeterias and an educational center for school field trips. Our goal is to also create a community learning center, interacting with other local farmers to share farming, growing and food production skills and knowledge with the surrounding community. By involving our students in the planning and development of programming at the farm and involving them in the field trip activities with younger students, we will develop enthusiasm and support for the program, increase enrollment over time, build ties in the community and enrich the health and wellness of our people, our environment and our economy.
