Our Purpose
Newhall Fields Community Farm (Newhall Fields) cultivates food and community to bring about social change. Our group became active because we share a passion for food, farming, and the health and well-being of our environment and our neighbors. Newhall Fields is rooted in and greatly strengthened by its vital community of volunteers. The mission of Newhall Fields is to farm, foster community, and enhance food security. Through farming operations, we grow, harvest, and distribute food of exceptional quality by practicing regenerative organic agriculture to serve the health of people, soil, nature, and the environment. Our community programs educate the public and provide volunteer engagement opportunities for the community to cultivate a sustainable, community-based food system together. To enhance food security, we grow and supply high quality food that is affordable, accessible, and inclusive with particular attention to culturally appropriate food crops. This work is critical in the Gateway City of Peabody: the rate of children living in poverty has risen 15% since 2012, and the food insecurity rate is 7.2% in Essex County. There are no other local food producers in Peabody providing these services in the community.
