African Women and Development
Our Purpose
Our mission is to maintain new regional and African dynamics of women mobilized to work for the empowerment of a productive, technical, and intercultural female leadership whilst seeking the development of women in all areas of active life, namely, the fight against poverty through job creation in its production units and the fight against all forms of violence against women. Seeing the need to support New Mainers, we have also created programs to provide basic needs (food, transportation, housing/shelter, and safety), life and work skills, and leadership training to help stabilize families and improve productivity, peer connectivity, and quality of life. Through our programs, we aim to build an inclusive and supportive environment for individuals to thrive and overcome challenges as they start their new lives in Maine. Our sewing classes help women practice their English language skills while learning a valuable skill and connecting with the community. Furthermore, the cooking classes bring together young refugees from diverse culture and teaches them an essential skill to help them become more independent. The meals-to-adults program provides delicious homemade meals to those in need. And last but not least, our leadership training provides the necessary skills and confidence to manage immigrants’ new lives in Maine and prepares them for success.
