Our Purpose

Farm Truck Institute builds a more nourishing, connected, and resilient community by bringing together Maine food, local kitchens, education, hospitality, and community organizations to address food insecurity with dignity. We believe access to wholesome food is essential to individual and community well-being. Through prepared meals, community food programs, education, workforce development, and partnerships with farms, businesses, nonprofits, schools, and local organizations, we work to strengthen the connections between the people who grow food, prepare it, share it, and need it.Our mission extends beyond feeding people. We seek to create a sustainable community food system that develops skills, supports Maine producers, reduces barriers to nutritious food, and creates opportunities for people to participate, contribute, learn, and belong. At the center of Farm Truck Institute is a simple belief: food can do more than relieve hunger. When thoughtfully grown, prepared, and shared, it can restore dignity, strengthen relationships, create opportunity, and build healthier communities.
