Our Purpose

At Maine Foodscapes, we believe that everyone deserves access to fresh, healthy food and the opportunity to engage in meaningful, community-driven food security solutions. The Foodscapes Garden Project provides free vegetable gardens to households experiencing food insecurity in York, Cumberland, Oxford, and Androscoggin Counties, empowering individuals and families to grow their own food and build long-term self-sufficiency. Through partnerships with housing authorities, schools, health centers, food banks, and pantries, we offer a sustainable approach to food access by providing gardens, seeds, seedlings, soil, and educational resources. To ensure long-term success, we also offer ongoing support and mentorship to returning gardeners, helping them sustain and expand their gardens year after year. Many of our gardeners have become leaders within their communities, with some even joining our board and contributing their lived experiences to help guide the future of our work. Each year, demand for our services exceeds available resources, underscoring the ongoing need for home gardening support. Our priority is to sustain and strengthen our existing work by building long-term, sustainable relationships with foundations and community partners to ensure continued impact. Reliable funding will allow us to maintain our current level of service while deepening our engagement with the individuals and organizations we support.
