Our Purpose

Our purpose is to turn our East End community from a food desert into a food oasis. The East End neighborhood has been a food desert for almost 50yrs, and the nearest grocery stores to this side of town is approximately 2 miles away and is not within reasonable walking distance to this neighborhood especially for the elderly and families with children. Our health department run Farmers Market that used to service this neighborhood recently failed due to work force reduction with the incoming new mayoral administration and left the East End community without access to fresh healthy foods. This has also severed a relationship with the last farmer we had access to that could accommodate our schedule . We have formed along with stakeholders and community members of the East End to ensure that the continuity of access to fresh and healthy produce as well as providing an economic stimulator for the East End residents is kept at the forefront as this community grows. We are forging new working relationships with local farming operations, as well as creating local growing operations of our own within the lines of the community. Our intention is to function as the managing organizers for the market which will entail site allocation, acquiring insurance and permits, meeting health department requirements and licensing. Also the marketing, advertising and community outreach to ensure and encourage as much community participation and volunteerism as possible. We also are making it a a priority to show community members everything we've done and how to do it so that they can take over and run the markets and teach the next generation of farmers, entrepreneurs and community activist. We are strong believers in fixing our repairing our communitys from the inside out.
