St. Greg's Social Action Committee
Our Purpose
The community garden group is a subset of a larger committe of ~ 20 individuals, the Social Action Committe. Our garden group intends to grow food to directly support the meals and pantry programs at the West Warwick Senior & Community Center, and to incorporate nutritional educational opportunities along the way. The West Warwick Senior and Community Center serves one of the least affluent cities in Rhode Island. In the last two months of 2016 they provided meals for 3399 individuals. They have expressed to us a great desire for fresh, local produce. The larger committee, now in its ??? year, organizes (or procures) and serves hot meals every 6-8 weeks at Emmanual House (a homeless shelter), advocates legislatively for the homeless, for affordable housing and for the environment. It holds Interfaith educational sessions, inviting speakers from Muslim and other faiths seeking to break down barriers between religious communities.
