Our purpose is to...save Gillett Pond. The ad hoc organization Friends of Gillett Pond, working under the auspices of the Richmond Land Trust, an established 501C3 (EIN #22-2859809) , came together in a remarkably short time upon learning Gillett Pond was to be drained and sold. An extraordinary effort to raise funds brought quick success. RLT now owns the 88 acres surrounding the pond. The State of VT, however, has set strict rules for the restoration of the crumbling dam. RLT and FoGP must now begin the long grind toward raising the considerable funds to rebuild the dam. The pond, land and dam are precious to the Richmond and Huntington communities. They are recreational, ecological and historical marvels.We all are prepared to go the distance to conserve this local treasure.
