Our Purpose

Mission Statement: The New England College Farm aims to promote sustainable agriculture based on the permaculture principles and ethics through educational outreach programs, farm trials, and local marketing by integrating its activities with academic programs and community services. The purpose of our group is to share our effort and knowledge growing vegetables, herbs, and flowers to show interested students, staff, and faculty, as well as Henniker townspeople, how to grow the produce, use them in cooking and enhancing the surroundings with flowers by providing an area we can share on NEC campus.  Special purpose of our group is to work with many students at NEC who come from urban areas where the opportunity to grow plants outside is often limited.  For some students, "soil" was conceived as a dirty word.  We want to encourage students to produce food for ourselves and experience the joy of playing in the dirt and eating fresh tomato off the vine still warm from the afternoon sun.We plan to share the produce with everyone on campus as well as with the townpeople at the local Farmers' Market and with the Food Pantry.
