Our Purpose
Our purpose is to promote health and wellness in our students and their families, with the current focus being on-site food production and local foods buying for our school cafeteria. The Health and Wellness Committee has worked on a range of projects from establishing school gardens, organizing events for families such as Zumba night and fun 5K runs, incorporating more fruits and vegetables in school meals, and we will soon be purchasing food for our cafeteria from local farmers. We plan to expand our school gardens this year, as well as working on more intensive methods. We have hired a part-time School Garden Coordinator to lead in these efforts. Our gardens are small (<1/10 acre), but we will be using the space to the fullest, in addition to introducing indoor microgreens during the off-season. We plan to grow a portion of the greens that will be needed for fall salads in the school cafeteria, and will cultivate other crops for their educational value.
