Our purpose is to create a successful, well-maintained, sustainable community garden in North Brookline, MA.This garden will give priority to residents of North Brookline who do not have suitable outdoor space for planting.  Five or six beds will be reserved for low income families and there will be several handicapped accessible beds. A community garden meets Brookline’s goals of self-sustainability and reduction of carbon emissions.  It will reduce car trips to the supermarket, lessen our dependence on food shipped from other parts of the country, encourage self-reliance by allowing residents to grow their own produce and lessen the amount of pre-wrapped produce purchased.  The LSCG will make North Brookline a more attractive community for young people since other towns in the area are providing more community growing spaces. We are hoping that our organizational structure will serve as a replicable model for other groups in Brookline who may want to create a community garden.
