Our Purpose

The purpose of this program will bring together 3 key areas tha affect the Old Hill Community: Food Insecurity, polluted soils and environmental justice.  The program goals is to increase access to healthier foods by providing freshly grown foods on the site of Spring of Hope Church and to assist other religious institutions in the immediate Old Hil area (churches, synagogues and mosques) to establish small gardens on their properties for the families that surroind their buildings.  5 religous institutions are are represented and the gardenwill feature culturally appropriate crops that are familier to community members.  The garden will be buttressed by nutrition and cooking instruction that will feature healthy eating practices with easy meal demonstrations and tastings from the garden.  An added feature will creating value added items such as salsa, jellies, jams, tomato sauces and other preserved foods that can be stored for later use.  The garden will also have a farmer's market that will travel between the houses of worship and will give food to the families that live around the relegious entities. There will be a children's garden that will be a teaching area for small children and a social meida prescence managed by the youth.
