Our Purpose

Protecting what we love. Cape Ann Climate Coalition (CACC) is an inclusive grassroots community-based organization whose mission is to mobilize widespread climate action on Cape Ann. The CACC was formed to increase the effectiveness of many small nonprofits and individuals working on climate change issues and to include individuals who want to be involved in creating a more resilient community. We believe together we can work stronger, faster, and more efficiently by sharing skills, interests, and knowledge to reduce greenhouse gas emmisions and make our community less vulnerable to climate change. The CACC is a loosely formed group with few rules. Membership from the four municipalities of Cape Ann (Gloucester, Rockport, Manchester and Essex) has grown over the last 6 years. Member participation varies from strong interest with limited time to Action group members who commit more time. Action group members work on targeted climate actions. The Organizing Committee, consisting of 10-15 members, meets monthly to receive feedback from Action group leaders on projects; they provide communication between Action Groups and all CACC members; and organize meetings and events. We focus on legislative actions, climate resiliency, education, biodiversity, and a major focus and resources has been spent on helping people move off of fossil fuels towards home electrification, especially for the people in our community who are low income.
