Franklin Watershed Committee, Inc.
Our Purpose
We are a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization working to improve water quality in Lake Carmi and other bodies of water in the Franklin Watershed. Franklin Watershed Committee (FWC) aims to reduce non-point source pollution into Lake Carmi through means of public education and aiding landowners in acquiring the funding necessary in undertaking projects beyond their economic means. Our committee provides long-term services such as water sampling, native plant installation and aquatic invasive species monitoring. We also work with the community and other constituents to educate on conservation topics. This is primarily implemented through a summer events series that educates on issues affecting water quality. We conduct our work in rural communities that otherwise would not have access to similar educational events. The most impactful sector of our work is that we conduct property assessments to identify projects to improve water quality. This includes improving riparian buffers, removing invasive plants and educating them on other best management practices. This resource is provided to landowners that cannot otherwise financially contribute to these projects. Landowners and the community both benefit from these improvements, which improve overall water quality and livability.
