Our Purpose

The Moosehead Region Futures Committee’s mission is to encourage, gather and incorporate area residents’ ideas and expertise to shape and balance the region’s future development, economy, and conservation efforts.  The Committee originated during a period of great change, when the nation's larged land owner -- Plum Creek -- emparked on significant development in the region.  Today, the Committee strives to work cooperatively with developers and agencies to  make such changes in rules, regulations, policies and practices as may be required to assure that the culture, history, traditions and values of Maine are represented in future land use decisions, and large scale development does not compromise the region's Quality of Place.  It is this Quality of Place that draws local residents and attracts the tourists and summer residents upon which the region's economic livlihood depends.
